But admits he may have “retweeted something that had an opinion along those lines”

The United Conservative Party candidate running in former Premier Jason Kenney’s vacated riding denies ever having called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “war criminal”.

However, he admits he may have retweeted a posting that said so.

“To be 100% clear, I did not ever say that Zelinski (sic) was a war criminal. I recall that I may have retweeted something that had an opinion along those lines, but honestly can not recall and my view is more along the lines to see an end to the conflict in Ukraine by way of a brokered peace (like has taken place in the middle-east and else where),” Eric Bouchard, running in Calgary Lougheed told New Pathway – Ukrainian News in an email.

Ukraine has state there can be no peace agreement that doesn’t respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine according to its 1991 borders.

Bouchard was responding to a question from NP-UN Western Bureau Chief who stated: “I got a twitter message that you had called Volodymyr Zelenskyy a war criminal. Please confirm or deny and if confirming please clarify.”

He added that:

“I have huge respect for the people of that part of the world in that they have suffered though so many conflicts over the past century or more.”

“My position in response to the Ukrainian-Russian conflict is to support in every way possible those who are refugees, who have lost everything and suffering as a result of the conflict, that we should support bringing as many Ukrainian refugees as we can accommodate in Alberta. We would only be a better place for it.

“There is no doubt that the Ukrainian-Canadian community has contributed in a very positive way to our Province.”

Bouchard is a member of the Take Back Alberta faction of the UCP which orchestrated the removal of Kenney as Premier.
