The Ukrainian Language Education Centre.
The UWC International Coordinating Council in partnership with the UCC Educational National Ukrainian Council successfully piloted a series of webinars on distance learning platforms, such as Google Classroom, Class Dojo and Kahoot!. While Google Classroom is used in grades K-12, Class Dojo focuses on engaging elementary-school students and their parents in distant learning while schools are closed due to COVID-19. Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform that makes learning fun in any subject, in any language, on any de-vice, for all ages. The webinars were conducted by Nataliya Nayavko, the Special Language Advisor for Ukrainian language and culture at Alberta Education. The attendees included not even teaching staff from Ukrainian schools and language programs, but also from colleges and universities in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Canada, Egypt, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey, Uzbekistan, UK, USA, and Ukraine.
The Council’s next series of webinars—How to organize online learning for primary and junior students—will be held on April 22, 2020: 11 am – Toronto / 6 pm – Kyiv. The sessions will be in Ukrainian.
