Bashuk Hepburn: Doing too little, too late for Ukraine buys Russia time to run amok around the globe

Russia wants a very, very long war to exhaust Ukraine and avoid punishment for war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity. It wants to find like-minded allies to undermine global security.

Ukraine’s determination to win Russia’s unprovoked invasion is a historic moment for the ages. Ukraine must win. Good must triumph over evil and Russia must be defeated. This is indispensable for civilization, which operates by the rule of law. Russia does not. Its victory, or capitulation to its connived demands for respect and security at peace talks, would be a backward slide to the rule of the jungle.
U.S. President Joe Biden has provided remarkable leadership to the free world in supporting Ukraine’s stand against its vicious neighbour. Canada has contributed by sending some $1 billion in military aid and $96 million in humanitarian assistance. It has trained 35,000 soldiers to counter the Russian aggressor. Canada stands with Ukraine because its cause is just and heroic.
Russia’s devastation and slaughter in Ukraine presents the world with a decisive moment to choose between right or wrong.
