Adapting an idea that originated with ACUA (Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts), multi-generational “ladies” from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Parish in Edmonton and some UCWLC delegates attending the Edmonton Eparchial Convention, embroidered 245 amulets for the Ukrainian military to wear under their uniforms in an effort to help keep them safe as they fight the Russian invasion of their homeland.
The amulets were blessed by Fr. Julian Bilyj, parish priest at St. Nicholas Parish in Edmonton.

These amulets plus a prayer provided by Fr. Julian Bilyj now will be taken to Ukraine by a family member of the Mandrusiak family to be distributed to Ukrainian military.
Additional amulets are being embroidered which will also be blessed and sent to Ukraine.
One of the embroiderers, a St. Nicholas UCWLC member, Emmeline Hlushak, embroidered approximately 100 of the amulets, 60 while watching on TV, Pope Francis’ visit
to Edmonton.
A young recent Ukrainian newcomer to Canada, Sofiia Yakymovych, also participated in the project.
This project was organized by the St. Nicholas UCWLC Cultural Committee (Christina Csernyanski and Joyce Chrunik-Rudiak).
