The 1st USCAK Canada Ukrainian Chess Tournament took place at UNF Toronto Hall, on 145 Evans Ave in Etobicoke, on May 6th and 7th.
A total of 10 participants took part in the professional portion of the tournament and 8 played in the amateur level – mostly youth. Some of the organizers of the tournament are UNF members, while players included UNF, MYNO, and Ukrainian Credit Union families.
Ukrainian Credit Union, the main sponsor of USCAK Canada, assisted with the sponsorship. Bohdan Myndiuk of Mytram Corp. sponsored one of the prizes.
The participants and their families enjoyed the tournament and are looking forward to the next one.

Sviatoslav Pylypchuk, organizer of the tournament (Vice President of Sports and Chess Director for USCAK Canada) was pleased in general with the tournament and the turn out. An investment was made in boards and timers for this tournament and future ones.
He commented, “I was pleasantly surprised at the youth turnout and expect to see greater numbers at the next one planned this year.” He added that a friendly, fun one is planned at the USC Karpaty Picnic in June of this year.
Bohdan Myndiuk (previous organizer for ST Ukraina tournaments and chair for this year’s UCC Ukrainian Independence Day Chess Tournament), who assisted throughout the tournament and sponsored a prize, stated enthusiastically, “I’m glad to see the Ukrainian chess tournaments starting up again!”
