Ukrainian Shumka Dancers are thrilled to announce the 3-D screening premiere of Mosquito's Wedding, Thursday, November 9 at the Landmark City Centre Cinemas, in Edmonton City Centre 10200 102 Ave NW. Tickets are $10 for big bugs, and $5 for little bugs (children 10 and under).
An original stage production that premiered in 2018, Mosquito’s Wedding (All We Need Is Love) is inspired by a traditional Ukrainian folk song. The 50-minute all-ages production features a number of insect characters from various “regions” of Ukraine. The dance lexicon, musical compositions, and sets, costumes and props are associated with these ethnographic regions. The theme of the production is poignant, being one of acceptance, diversity, and overcoming stereotypes.
Mosquito's Wedding was filmed during Shumka on Tour in 2022 by Northern Gateway Films for a 3-D cinematic experience. Funded in part by Canada Council of the Arts: Digital Now Program.
