UCC Calgary welcomes President Volodomyr Zelensky to the 2025 G7
A Ukrainian Canadian community delegation is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following the G7 summit in Kananaskis.
The meeting was arranged by the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada Roman Yosyfiv, president of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress’s Calgary branch told New Pathway – Ukrainian News.
Yosyfiv also said that he expects to be one of the 10 people who will meet for an hour at an undisclosed location in Calgary June 17.
The time and location of the meeting hasn’t been disclosed for obvious security reasons, he said.
Another member of the delegation will be former MP for Etobicoke Centre, Borys Wrzesnewskyj, who is currently in Calgary looking for a site to open up a dairy plant and bakery outlet.
Wrzesnewskyj, who is the owner of LC-Dairy and Future Bakery confirmed his invitation to NP-UN.
Yosyfiv told The Calgary Herald the delegation wants to give Zelenskyy a show of support and a reminder of how much their community has striven to push Canada to back the Ukrainian war effort through lobbying that’s included numerous public rallies.
Zelenskyy will be presented with gifts that include pysanky — intricately decorated Easter eggs crafted by a Calgary woman — a book chronicling Ukrainian pioneers in Alberta and artwork, he added.
Yosyffiv commended Zelenskyy’s military and diplomatic activity:
“He hasn’t bent to (U.S. President Donald) Trump or (Russian President Vladimir) Putin . . . he didn’t run away on the first day (of the full-scale war),” he said.
“He’s the best president ever, but he is, unfortunately, under very difficult circumstances.”
Yosyfiv also told The Herald that “force is the only thing that Putin understands” and that the Trump factor makes the future fortunes of war “unpredictable.”
A day before the start of the G7 conference rallies were held in both Calgary and Edmonton.
UCC Calgary also erected an electronic billboard at the Calgary International Airport (YYC) to welcome Zelenskyy to Canada. The billboard is located at the exit of YYC.
