To celebrate the 35th anniversary of The Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts (ACUA) and the 45th anniversary of the Ukrainian Canadian Art Foundation/KUMF Gallery, ACUA in partnership with KUMF Gallery launched their first online fundraising auction “Canvas Canada – Exhibit ‘i’”.

“We are inviting all Ukrainian Canadian artists from across Canada to submit original works with the theme, the English or the Ukrainian letter “i”. We’re very excited to see everyone’s interpretation,” said ACUA’s Vice President Irene Pyzyk at the launch.

“There have been difficult times during the past year in the global pandemic, both for all of the talented artists and our galleries. With Canvas Canada exhibit “i”, we hope to make a difference for all and inject some pleasure at the same time by celebrating Ukrainian Canadian artists, their works and talents across Canada and globally,” she said.

Lot 16 details: “POEM, DOVBUSH”; egg tempera on canvas
10 ins x 10 ins; 25.4 cms x 25.4 cms

Canvas Canada – Exhibit “i” features artworks by Ukrainian Canadian artists from across the country – ranging from paintings, drawings, photographs, ceramics, sculptures and textiles to graphic works, illustrations, and mock-ups — all exhibited anonymously, said the auction’s website.

A list of participating artists is available, and the identity of the artist appears on the back of each piece. However, the identity of each artist in relation to each artwork is a mystery until time of purchase. All works are 10″×10″ and are in some way inspired by the English letter “i” or Ukrainian letter “i”.

The project received over 150 artworks from 80+ artists nationally.

The location of lots is identified in the “Notes” section of each lot description on the website: https://acuarts.ca/canvas-canada-exhibit-i/. Payments, pick up and shipping will be arranged by the ACUA and UCAF/KUMF Gallery from either Toronto or Edmonton.

The auction is hosted by Waddington’s Auctioneers and Appraisers and will close on October 31, 2021.
