The Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League Supports the Relief Effort

On September 11, 2014 the President of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada, Toronto Eparchy Anna Martyniw and Vice-President Roma Skocylak attended the United For Ukraine Gala at the Toronto Congress Centre along with many UCWLC members. At the VIP reception, they presented Prime Minister Stephen Harper with an embroidered shirt along with sincere thanks for his outstanding support of Ukraine at this challenging time.
The Gala was an opportunity for the UCWLC, Toronto Eparchy to contribute to the fund raising effort to support Operation Rainbow, an all volunteer, non-profit medical services organization that provides free reconstructive surgery to needy children and adults. The Canada Ukraine Foundation is partnering with Operation Rainbow to send a team of volunteer medical professionals to Ukraine in November 2014 to treat post-traumatic deformities (facial and skull defects and deformities, burn scar contractures, scars, upper extremity defects and deformities). The project will also foster self-reliance in Ukrainian surgical centers with the ability to attend to specialized cases locally in the future.
Established by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Canada Ukraine Foundation (CUF) coordinates, develops, organizes and delivers assistance projects generated by Canadians to Ukraine. As a member agency of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, UCWLC members were proud participants in the 1,200-strong assembly at the Gala. By their participation at the Gala, UCWLC members of Toronto Eparchy were able to demonstrate their support of their Ukrainian heritage and to participate charitable works and mutual aid intended to relieve human suffering in Ukraine. In fact, the purpose and focus of the United for Ukraine Gala was explicitly congruent with the goals of UCWLC.
