Reflecting his preference for ethnic media over mainstream outlets, the leader of the official opposition, Pierre Poilievre, welcomed multicultural media representatives to a garden party at his Stornoway residence in Ottawa’s lush Rockcliffe Park area on Tuesday, June 11. Poilievre and his wife, Anaida (Ana) Poilievre, proved to be warm and engaging hosts at the charming government-owned property.

The gathering provided an opportunity for representatives from multicultural media outlets to engage in informal, yet extensive conversations with Poilievre and around a dozen other Conservative MPs, including Conservative Whip Kerry-Lynne Findlay. Poilievre expressed his ongoing commitment to reaching out to independent and diverse media outlets, which he believes convey the authentic narrative.

Following an introduction by Deputy Leader Tim Uppal (Edmonton Mill Woods), Poilievre addressed the key points of his platform, which include eliminating the carbon tax, addressing housing issues, balancing the budget, and combating crime. He voiced criticism of the recently increased capital gains tax, which could impact many ethnic media owners. Additionally, he outlined his proposal to streamline the recognition of professional credentials for newcomers through the Blue Seal professional certification program.

During discussions with New Pathway – Ukrainian News, the opposition leader affirmed his support for Ukraine, advocating for a robust energy export policy and increased weapons support for the country.

Anaida Poilievre extended a warm welcome to the guests and emphasized the valuable contributions of immigrants to Canadian society. A DJ of Venezuelan origin entertained the guests with popular Latin American tunes, prompting many to join in lively dancing. The festivities continued late into the evening, fueled by a generous bar and an array of international cuisine.
