On October 4 Richard Eaton Singers and Kappella Kyrie Slavic Chamber Choir presented $22,000 worth of grocery gift cards to the Ukrainian Canadian Social Services.

This is the amount raised at their June 19 Peace and Reconciliation concert at the Winspear Centre for Music in Edmonton.

RES President, Cathryn Landreth presented a packed red box of gift cards to John Shalewa (President, Ukrainian Canadian Social Services in Edmonton). Both conductors – Dr. Leonard Ratzlaff (RES) and Dr. Melanie Turgeon (KKSCC) were present and so were Ivan and Ksenia Fedyna (President and Board member of Kappella Kyrie).

CTV News came out to cover this presentation.

UCSS (Edmonton) has been helping hundreds of families that have fled the war. The majority of the families they are assisting include a mom with children, while the dads have had to remain in Ukraine to fight. It brought to a close this very meaningful and successful collaboration between RES and Kappella Kyrie. This was such a proud achievement both musically and financially, in such a short time period, for both choirs.
