Cello Concert to Launch The Leon Hloba Scholarship Fund at the UCRDC

Jun 8, 2014 | Newpathway, Community

The family of Leon Hloba, who died in 2012, has set up a scholarship fund in his name at the Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre. The article in Novyi Shliakh on May 8, 2014─Ukrainian Heroes of the French Resistance─ told the story of how Mr Hloba joined the French Resistance and fought the Germans during WWII. Mr Hloba’s sister, Zhenia Maslany and her family, have made a donation to the UCRDC to set up a scholarship fund to assist with scholarly research on Ukrainians who joined the French Resistance.

To launch the scholarship fund, Ms Maslany’s daughter and Leon Hloba’s neice, cellist Nadia Klein, has organized  a benefit concert which will feature a group of six cellists─ the Cello Bellas.

The concert will be held on Friday June 6, 2014 at 7:30 at the St.Vladimir Institute Theatre, 620 Spadina Avenue, Toronto. Tickets are $25.00. The concert is sponsored by the UCRDC in cooperation with St.Vladimir Institute.
